It’s the third week of my first 12 Week Year — and my post is late! I’m supposed to be sharing my weekly updates every Friday, but I got distracted by unnecessary and unproductive things. So, here I am, sharing my Week 3 Updates on week 4.
If you’re new to my blog, I’m following the 12 Week Year to achieve my 2021 goals. Its objective is to shorten the year (52 weeks, 365 days) to 12 weeks to be able to do more. At first, you may think it’s counterintuitive, but when you understand the reason, you’ll realize it has a point. Think about Parkinson’s Law: work expands to fill the allotted time. The more time you have to finish a task, the longer it will take you. If you want a detailed explanation of the concept, you can read the full blog post here.
- Delivered all Fiverr orders
- Paid my credit card
- Wrote a new blog draft
- Work 40+ hours
- Finalized What it’s like to have epilepsy post
Didn’t get to do the following:
- Walk 5/5 – I walked 4/5 days for Week 3
- Start children’s book draft (backlog for Week 2)
- Finish 60 images for Instagram and Facebook: I only finished 30! (backlog for Week 2)
- Write Week 3 post on Friday: But here it is! Four days late.
Challenges & Solutions
Distraction – that’s what caused me to fall short this week! I was hooked on watching Indian movies on Netflix that I slacked off. It’s not an excuse, but rather a failure on my part.
I’m going to be honest here, even if I’m disciplined I still get distracted. My plan for Week 4 (this week) is to watch movies only on my free time (and so far it’s working well!).
Distractions are major roadblocks in goal achievement. The best way to deal with these are to identify things that distract you, and keep them away. My major distraction is my smartphone, to be specific Instagram, Netflix, and Messenger. To stop getting distracted, I downloaded an app that will block these distracting apps.
